Seems like a wierd combo, Satellite monitoring and C130 flying. And USAFA isn't necessarily basic training for all airforce personnel, just the soon to be officers, correct?

Ok, so Carson houses and keeps up training existing soldiers. Is Carson especially for amoured vehicles or is that just the way the whole army is. When I'm down at Carson, I see a ton of vehicles including Abrams and fuel trucks and bridge layer things (I think that's what they are).
The Satellite operations/monitoring is more out of Shriever than Peterson, although there may be some of that on Peterson as well.

Peterson is the Headquarters for the military's Space arm (the entire military), and NorthComm....which is kind of akin to the military side of Homeland Defense. The C-130 unit is a Reserve Squadron. Different entity altogether. Not part of the Space Command.

The Academy does basic training for the incoming cadets (soon to be officer types), not the entire AF, and their basic training is run by upper classmen and Academy cadre.

Air Force basic training for everyone else is in San Antonio, TX and is run by professional drill sergeants. And the Academy population isn't nearly 25,000. According to Wikipedia, it's more like 6,600. It's a very big installation with lots of support personnel.

And the armored vehicles on Ft. Carson are part of the overall 4th Infantry Division. A division is very big, so it has all the necessary support elements as well. Logistics, Communications, Engineers, Armor, Aviation, etc.

Every Army post does not necessarily have Armored vehicles.

4th ID is mechanized, so you'll see all kinds of vehicles. When I was stationed there in the mid 80's we used M113 APC's (Armored Personnel Carrier). What do they do exactly in all our military bases?-01.jpg Not me, but here is what an APC looks like.
