Yes, the owner was quoted in numerous news sources that he had, "not signed on to the idea of moving downtown". I haven't really seen the evidence that Sky Sox is any way unhappy with where they are. Sure, they can move - but honestly I've been to other minor league stadiums - ours is not the worst out there, nor the worst attended. They've invested about $8 million in recent years into the stadium. If they were looking to leave shortly, they probably would not have done that. The Brewers is the 4th team they've affiliated with - White Sox, then Cleveland Indians, Rockies, now Brewers. It isn't that unusual for a triple A team to be affiliated with a team that isn't right next door. I just don't see this as a big deal, and I don't see that the Sky Sox is saying it is a big deal. It seems like people getting upset over nothing. Everything is fine for now.

Ramsey: Sky Sox rescued from Rockies clueless tyranny | gazette.com

Here's a nice, optimistic take on the situation. I like the points made and retract most of my previous bemoaning.

On a slightly different note, this is interesting as well: http://m.gazette.com/editorial-consp...rticle/1537855

Two editorials that argue both sides of the story.

^The second link was exactly the point I've been trying to make. It's not unreasonable to think that a major league club at some point will buy the Sky Sox and move them to another city with better facilities. You cannot continue to maintain the status quo.

I live ~ 30 minutes from SS Field and have been to exactly 1 sky sox game, all the while thinking, 'why did I just pay the same money, drink the same lousy beer and watch the same boring gameplay I could have seen at Coors Field with a slightly longer drive?' So, if they leave and don't come back it's hardly a travesty to me. And who knows, maybe the Rockies can do better with a different 3-A team under them (not likely, but maybe).

Sorry, Otowi, but it's this type of ringing endorsement of what "we" have here in Colorado Springs that is the very reason the city is stagnating.

Good, more detachment from the horrible Rockies. Fans can see prospect players from a team that has a chance to play October ball.

The stadium should be moved to downtown, the current one is in a horrible location. But the fact is no major league team wants their AAA team to play in Colorado Springs. The altitude and weather isn't ideal for a serious MLB team. We'll see how next year goes, changing things up every once in a while is a good thing.

I don't get what is so bad about the location of the current stadium - it is a reasonable drive time from anywhere in town in a decent area with other things to do nearby, etc. What would be better downtown - traffic would probably worse, and you'd probably have to pay to park. Do people want it downtown just to copy Denver or something?
