El Mac: Yes, you do sound "racist". I'm a native Californian (San Diego). There's no such thing as "diversity inevitably brings a whole host of problems". I've lived in all white neighborhoods full of white trash, adn I've lived in nealy all black neighborhoods full of black trash.... LET'S NOT GET LIFE TWISTED!

While we're on the subject of diversity and multiculturalism, please take a moment to read this excellent and pertinent speech by our former governor and retired civil rights attorney.
"American Suicide" a speech by Former Colorado Governor Richard Lamm-Truth!

Truth hurts....some folks.

I just read the speech by the former governor- It was a very compassionate speech, full of much rhetoric, and I agree with the majority of what he said. However him and people like him miss the point- Completely! Diversity in and of itself is not the problem, the problem is when ignorant-butt native-born peoples and arrogant "self-entitled immigrants refuse to tolerate and accept people who are different and who insist on living in a new country according to their "old country" standards (ie language, citizenship, and obedience to local laws and customs).

Diversity works well when you have people who use common sense, courtesy, and are respectful towards their neighbors and their community. As a native Californian, I can say that a few apples do spoil the whole bunch"However, If Colorado Springs or any other locale was all-white, all-black, all-Latino or whatever, there's still going to be inter-personal problems one way or another. Eastsiders will think they're better than westsiders, there will be divisions regarding education, labor vs management, wealth, gender, age, etc. I said it before and I'll say it again.. LET'S NOT GET LIFE TWISTED!

You are way out in left field, brother. As a sovereign nation, assimilation is a necessity. It's what precludes unity. Moreover, most of our ancestors who immigrated legally wanted to be U.S. citizens desperately. They took to our laws and customs willingly. Sure, they-mine included-celebrate their cultural traditions, but first and foremost they were U.S. citizens. Sadly, and almost pathetically, all the machinations mentioned in Mr. Lamm's speech in '04 are hard at work today. As for me, I'm for telling the truth - EVEN IF IT HURTS SOMEBODY'S FEELINGS.
It's not a cliche, either: United We Stand. Divided We Fall.

:No worries. My feelings don't get hurt. I do agree with you that assimilation is a necessity. However, many of us white people have the idea that: "I can't succeed because black people got more rights than us white folks ... blah blah blah" .
