There are also lots of more traditional/mundane things to do - pick up the Friday Go section of the Gazette each week - movie listings, theater, concerts, etc., are always in there. The Independent lists a lot of those too. There are places like Paint with a Twist or make your own pottery places, of course plenty of shopping for those who like that. Lots of high school sporting events and some college sports. You might see what is going on at local community centers and parks - many of them have publications or websites announcing their scheduled events.

I would say join a group like some on meetup.com or look for a local Colorado Springs group on Facebook, Im not religious but church is also an option. Join a group and go do some of the functions whether its hiking or biking or baking ...you will mingle with some locals or newbies like yourself, maybe make new friends, all while doing something that you may have some interest in.

x2 for this suggestion for things. While these tend to be shorter term or transient events that come and go, there are sometimes some good suggestions in there as well as restaurant, venue, and activity reviews.

Since you have kids, there are also some decent items in some of the newsprint flyers sitting by the doors in most grocery stores. Browse them and snag a few that look interesting.

The Cos city website is also a source: https://coloradosprings.gov/ hit the explore and play tab and see what suites your fancy.

I would definitely try to get in a routine as fast as possible- *this* is where I get my coffee, *this* is my grocery store- I know my military friend gets the local newspapers for at least the first handful of months just to get a feel of the area. Explore with a nod towards getting a routine and knowing where the best place for wine may be, or coffee, or fresh baked bread, etc.

Well, when I was younger, I had moved---from state to state---a few times and mostly smaller towns so it was easy and simple----limited technology and all. Then, I moved to Oregon and lived there 35 years--- mostly on the coast. After that, we then made the big move to the Seattle area and that was a huge shock. My options were endless and I was over whelmed to say the least. Not to mention the people there are not very friendly. We lived there 10 years until I retired and the economy was better. In April of last year, we moved here. Being older with hardly knowing anyone, it was over whelming for sure. Even tho I had done a ton of research and had been here before, it was a huge learning curve---everything was new and different---the sun and the altitude, oh my!!! I knew all I was feeling and thinking was normal and I knew it would not be easy. Still it was very hard and I was frustrated. I just kept moving forward and doing. Having a limited income did not help any either but I was prepared and that, I think, is the key. My point, you are prepared, you will do well---it is normal to feel a little uneasy. I have been here 9 months now and am pretty comfortable. Things are pretty well in order. The people here are for the most part, kind and friendly. Shopping is easy and plentiful and if you like to do it on line, that is an easy option also. Occasionally, the altitude will bother me and you will need sunglasses---if you do not like the weather, wait 5 minutes. All in all, I love it here and happy I made the move. This is where I will be for the rest of my life. This place has everything I need or could want and I love the weather. So what are the things I do not like about living here---roads are not well taken care of (lots of pot holes), signage is not the best and can be confusing(mountains are West and most main roads go North/South or East/West), snow removal etc. is not the best I have seen ---but snow does not stay long, lots of speeders---beware of lots of red light runners---distracted drivers. Hope this helps and if I can be of any help to you, let me know and I wish you a safe and uneventful move. Welcome to this wonderful area!!

Ice Caves! If your adventurous, it's basically crawling underneath a big boulder field. Not for the claustrophobic though, as it's really not a cave, just a bunch of rocks. And it's only doable in the summer. It's that rock field to the right on the Palmer Lake reservoir trail.
