I was wondering what was going on with that place. I live just south of it.

Here's what the Gazette said about it in a story on January 13, 2011. It's just been purchased by the owner of Southside Johnny's. They're closed right now, but are doing renovations to plumbing and electrical systems and hope to reopen in April or May. They said they'll have 20 beers on tap. The owner said expect it to be a lot like Johnny's (located on South Tejon in CS). I've been to Johnny's a couple of times since moving here a few months go. Once with a car club I belong to (we had their private room in the back, decent food, good service. Not bad for a group of more than 50 folks). A few biker types, but everyone seems to behave themselves pretty well. They have live music and my guess is that it can get pretty rowdy, but in a good way. If the Navaho Hogan will emulate Johnny's, it'll help the neighborhood businesses (not that bad, by the way, but agree it's not the picture the Chamber of Commerce will use on their website). That area is only a few blocks north of some of the nicest homes in CS, but it does change rather quickly after you get a few blocks north of the hospital, which is where the Navaho Hogan is located. Since I live in the Old North End, I'm looking forward to its reopening.

It's basically at Nevada and Fillmore, across from some pay-by-the-hour motels, but it's really cool. I used to go there for lunch often when I was at UCCS. Loved their Chile Verde and the other food was good, too. Bar area always seemed to have a few people even in the morning, but on the weekends, the place used to rock and be really crowded (this was in the 90's). There was definitely a biker element to it, but it wasn't a problem. For me, it's a warm fuzzy.

I grew up in Colorado Springs from '57 to '64, we lived in the Cragmor area. I always remember that place when my dad would take us to school as we were on Nevada ave. every day. It's nice to know someone is sinking some money into the place.

Agree with the other posters....to me, it's a classic biker joint. Food's alright, same beer you can get at any place. Parking can be a lil' tight.

It's next to a XXX joint; don't know if that's a plus or a minus.

It has a little history, too...although I don't remember the details. But, originally it was built by a White Man who worked in the coal mining unions for the mines (I think) down around Pueblo). A lot of the workers in the mines were Indians. He built the restaurant as a place where the Indians could mingle with the locals, and the initial part of the building (which you can still see if you step back a bit) was actually shaped a bit like a hogan. As I recall, this was back in the 30s or thereabouts.

There's been a lot of work going on inside the past couple of weeks, so it appears the reopening will be coming to fruition.
