Hello ,

First, we were thinking about moving to Charlotte, NC from Abu Dhabi , UAE without a job then I will look later as i heard the IT job market is doing well.
Today, I am in process of getting back my old job but either in CS or Orlando but the manager prefers CS for some reason and I prefer at least Orlando, FL.
I am just confused about CS considering my background : previous locations Abu Dhabi UAE and Amsterdam NL before that

1) What is degree of tolerance and acceptability for Muslims in CS ?
2) How is the weather in winter time ? how much snow will stay in the city or road ?
3) We are more city people and likes shopping without need of drive license. what is the degree of isolation in CS ?
4) what is the reason of CS vs Denver voters?

El Paso votes
Trump 56.20% 179,228
Clinton 33.90% 108,010

Denver votes
Clinton 73.70% 244,551
Trump 18.90% 62,690

regards
K .

I am a Muslim in CS. Ramadan Mubarak. I do not find a problem of tolerance here more than anywhere else. But, there are not many Muslims here so people do not much about Muslims here and there is very little in the way of halal food, mosques, etc. If you're happy being an independent person you'll be fine, but if you want a vibrant religious community you need to go somewhere else. This is not a big cosmopolitan city.

The weather in winter time is highly variable. It is definitely colder than Orlando - we get snow and freezing temps but it also be in the 60s/70s. Snow that does fall usually melts within a day or two.

CS is a car city as is most of the West. You will not be satisfied relying on public transportation or pedestrian means of getting around. You will need to drive.

Most of the more rural areas in CO lean Republican while the more urban areas lean Democrat, but there are also variations based on local industry - like Pueblo's steel mill city makes it pretty blue, CS's strong military industry contributes to it being more Red, etc. CS has a pretty strong local Republican base but also has a lot of Democrats that contribute to the state vote significantly in that regard.

Orlando is going to be a shocker for rain just like CO Springs will be a shocker for winter if your coming from the UAE. For CO Springs most of the time during the winter, there's not much snow on the ground as it usually melts a couple days after the storm.

Shopping without driving everywhere could be possible in some neighborhoods near downtown or near Manitou.

CO Springs is a mixed bag, with a lot of people leaning far to the left or far to the right on the political spectrum, but on average there's a lot more that lean far to the right.

No question, for me...Orlando prehistoric hand size spiders, prehistoric palmetto
bugs in your bedroom, in your cupboards.....mosquitoes all over!
CS...very very few insect problems...almost NO mosquitoes.

Orlando dripping with hot humid days
CS no humidity.

Orlando is more beautiful and can't beat the evening flowers in the air.

Lived in both.

If the end game is to end up in Charlotte, then Orlanda will be less of a leap there than from Colo Spgs.

Population density, diversity of people, and range of activities will also be considerably different in Orlando than Colo Spgs.

Well, the climate is radically different from Orlando :-). The winter is "easy", but I came from Mpls, so to me we get very little snow & cold in comparision. It is not uncommon to have many 50 degree days during winter & it always feels about 10 degrees warmer than it really is, due to the altitude & almost-constant sunshine. However, we DO get snowstorms, sometimes massive ones. The average snowstorm melts within a day or two.

You need a car. This is not an urban center, where you can walk or take public transport. There is some (limited) bus service. I'm not really sure what you mean by the degree of isolation. You can make friends, but it takes effort & is easier if you work in an office or have kids, so you easily have a way to meet others.

There is a much bigger Muslim community in Denver, than here. COS is VERY conservative. I know others will disagree with me, but I moved here from a liberal city & I find it to be VERY conservative & uber-fundamentalist Christian. Which doesn't mean you won't find liberal people or non-Christians, but you have to make an effort. Others have also said that the part of town I live in (north) is probably worse for that, than other parts of town.

COS is also heavily military, which could be good or bad for you. For the most part they skew conservative, but many have lived in all over the world & so have an understanding & appreciation for a culture that's different than theirs.

COS is a conservative outpost & is VERY different from Denver. Denver is a live & let live attitude with easy, laid back people who tend not to be too invested in others' beliefs. COS is not. As to why, I think there are many factors & I'd have to delve into history & politics. I'm not sure it much matters, it is what it is. It's getting less conservative as time goes on, but that's still heavily conservative & very religious (in what *I* perceive as a very in your face, try to shove it down others' throats kinda way). I have never encountered this anywhere else I've lived.

We also have almost no humidity, which would be the opposite of Orlando. I can't speak to the Muslim question directly, but I can't say that I know any Muslims here, though I'm sure there are. I can tell you that I know someone who based on his country of origin, I might think was Muslim & he took great pains over & over (on several occasions) to tell me that he wasn't. To the point that I finally said "Hey Ahmed (not his real name), it doesn't matter to me if you're Muslim or Christian or whatever, I care whether I like you & if you're a good person", but he was adamant that he did not want to be mistaken for Muslim. I'm not sure if that was his own bias or something he perceived from the community. There are a lot of intelligent people here, so I would like to think that you wouldn't have many problems! It's not a crime-ridden city, so any racism you might experience would likely be subtle. I suspect, just from hearing the news, that Orlando would be very different, as it has crime & violence issues.

1. I don't think most would be outwardly hateful, you'd probably have to search a bit to find other Muslims.

2. Winter can be warm enough for days, then snow, then sunny, then snow. The roads should be clear within a week or even the same day.

3. You'd probably need a license unless you choose where to live very smartly, or don't mind taking the bus.

4. Denver is much more liberal. It's a larger city with a different history and different projectile. Colorado Springs has a huge military population including those who have retired, which may also be why.
