I'm an engineering burn-out and looking for an inexpensive place to live while I take a year off or consider new jobs, careers. How do you think CO Springs or Pueblo would work? I would really like to live in a house at <$1200rent+util/mo so I could play guitar at weird hours if I wanted.

Virtually my entire life has been surrounded in military/male dominated schools and jobs; if I could avoid that I would be ecstatic. I love the outdoors, but have found the yuppification in the Seattle-area stronger than my liking (though, really, that's much less of a problem than the insane rent here).

Rents are rising in Colorado Springs and your price range might be difficult depending on your requirements. There is a strong military element to Colorado Springs as well, but it is avoidable if you prefer. Given your two chief requirements, you might look in Pueblo first, or Canon City.

Your post reminds me of a song....

I think you could find a house in Pueblo for that amount. In Colorado Springs, it would likely put you into a neighborhood "surrounded in ...."

Read through the posts regarding Pueblo to learn about the city.

Good Luck...Play away...Let your internal artist shine.

Sounds like Pueblo would be your best bet!

If you do look at the Springs, this is a good source for rentals:

We have plenty of the great outdoors to enjoy, but as Otowi mentioned ... rents are increasing, though I think perhaps they're still lower here than where you are.
