Ageism is real. However I think you might have better luck with the state or Feds. CO jobs can be found at: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/Colorado. Also keep an eye on USAJOBS. Lots of federal money in COS, mostly military, but they still hire civilians for a number of jobs.

I know you are fit, but if you've been living at/near sea level all of your life, you want to make sure you can take the altitude.

Good luck!

There are a lot of retirees in COS, mainly military & often those folks start a second career at an advanced age, so I don't think it's terribly unusual here, but I can't speak specifically to the local job market. Good advice though to be sure your body is ok with the altitude. It can even affect young, healthy people. Some people just have a hard time with it.

Hi Javon, we certainly welcome you and hope you choose Colorado Springs as your next home. Mike, as always, has listed some excellent resources for employment and housing.

Although we do not have the number of African Americans of the East Coast, we are, for the Mountain West, a relatively diverse city. This may be primarily due to our large military facilities and the retirement of many who were stationed here during active duty and made the decision to retire here as well. FWIW, I'm from Denver and have lived here for almost 20 years. I'm a 61-year old white man, my wife a 61-year old Korean lady. We have never experienced even the most remote indication of bias.

Regarding employment, the Springs has a service-based economy rather that manufacturing. Obviously this is good or bad depending on your situation. My wife has an accounting business that she's just started. I would think with your background and education you would be in a better position to find employment than most.

Again, good luck and best wishes. This town is a great place to live!

As well as the other suggestions, I would look into a few temp agencies as well. Sometimes those jobs lead to full-time positions ... you never know.

For instance, this locally-owned agency has been around for a long time: https://addstaffinc.com/

They typically have a few accounting positions.
I could not agree more. I lived in the Seattle area before moving here and basically after the economy crash, a lot of higher up older people got dumped for young 40 year olds. It was amazing and of course, the minute you walk into an interview and they see you are older with lots of experience, you are done. I saw it many times. Why do you think that Walmart and Home Depot have a lot of "older people" working for them for next to nothing wages. All sad but true.I have even seen it in the health care field and usually health care people can get jobs anywhere.

Hi Javon,
Today is Saturday the 29th of July.
I wonder how are you doing since your last post.
My wife and I are also planning to make the move to Colorado Springs.
We lived for many years in DC and Northern Va and made the bad choice to move to Austin, TX.(Allergy Capital of USA).
I hope you are doing well.

Good. Pay close attention to whether or not the elevation affects your health here, particularly blood pressure. It sure did me!
