Hopefully in late January or February I will finally be moving to Arizona. At age 68 and with a somewhat fragile pet, I don't quite trust myself to do the drive by myself. I have no idea how to find someone to drive with me (nope, my friends are all in my age range or older, so that does not work), particularly if there were serious car issues.

I have no idea on how to go about finding a driver (for pay and expenses, of course) with references. Any suggestions?

Hmmm - that's an interesting one. Uber and Lyft drivers I think would be too expensive probably, but you could talk to one and see if they can do a deal with you as an aside maybe. Another option would be if you are using a moving company to see if they can possibly come up with a driver for you. Another place to check would be with mobility/senior local transportation providers to see if they can work out something for a move - maybe care.com or maybe look at local places in your phone book, etc. If you go to a church, many of them would work with you to find a driver that way too. Maybe someone on here can do it!

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy your new home.

My Dad an a group of his retired friends deliver cars for dealerships in the New England area. They are also the guys that give you a ride to work or home if you've dropped your car off for service. You might stop by a dealership and see if there is someone who might fit the bill.

Good luck on the move! Arizona will be a nice change especially in the Winter.

This may seem silly, but I remember drive boards. College bulletin boards where students looking for inexpensive ways to get from point a to point b would post a notice. Maybe call a few local colleges to see if they have drive boards. Might be worth a shot.

Also, Craigslist has a "Ride Share". I just did a search using "Arizona", and a few came up. I'd post a link but I don't think that would be allowed. You could post a request there.

Do you have grandchildren that drive? This sounds like a perfect opportunity to have a family adventure with relatives you don’t get to see too much of. How about extended family of your friends? Reach out to your church, see if you can make any connections there.
Hope you’re able to find the support you need.

A little different than what these people normally do but you might contact them and see if you can ride along.

Drivers - Auto Driveaway - Auto Driveaway

Otherwise I've had friends who used to drive for their grandmother / grandfather and knew older people who would get a child or grandchild to drive them around.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I will try several of them right after the holidays to see what I can find.
