All I know as an educated, moderately liberal, progressive Millennial single female professional I'd rather eat sh*t and die than live there. Couldn't pay me enough.

When was the last time you visited Colorado Springs? The cities reputation as a conservative haven is overblown there are lots of progressive folks on the west side and downtown region. Quality of life is very high if you like the outdoors traffic is pretty light. If you visited over a decade ago I would share your sentiments but the city has changed alot in fact I would invite you visit it again it may grow on you.

Too bad she can't relocate in Boulder.

I considered CO to retire as CO is a beautiful state and have many great vacation memories. But after seeing the property values skyrocket in the DEN metro, I decided it wasn't worth it ( I could pay cash even with current prices). Also, really not a fan of snow which COS would have more than DEN or Ft. Collins. And the third factor was the Blueing of CO politically. I am a moderate on social issues but conservative on fiscal and not impressed with the way CO has voted in recent years. I am not a fan of MJ or its use. I do enjoy visiting but will stay put in TX .

She is a former New Yorker considering moving to Denver. I don't think she has ever visited Cos, so the opinion may be formed primarily off postings here, second hand sources, and national media opinions. Amusingly though, her rental budget, the dating pool, and access to skiing are all probably better here than in Denver.

Actually Cos gets less snow on average than Denver or Ft Collins. Social issues, fiscal issues, and voting, yea, there are two Colorados, the Front Range and everywhere else. That creates a weird mess politically.

You do have a point.

As an educated millennial stay at home mother, with libertarian leanings....I think it's great here. It's probably one of the most ideal places I could choose, minus a few issues.

Would I chose to live here if I didn't have kids and needed to have a career outside of the home that made enough to sustain a middle class lifestyle? No way. I'd most likely find in boring and lacking enough opportunities. The cheaper housing might be a draw, but I don't think it's cheap enough at this point to be a huge motivator.

Exactly. Just looking at housing costs and not professional opportunities is simplistic and short-sighted. In my experience you get what you pay for. It's like making the argument I should move deep into Appalachia Tennessee because I can get a McMansion for 200K. Lol.

Colorado Springs isn't some podunk town like Pueblo there are lots of professional opportunities available.

Hey now! Some Pueblans? Puebloans? Might take offense to that. Although they do have a Zoo...I had no idea.

I hope that they'll be seeing lots of growth.

I think we could also include "crass" in your list of attributes as well.

There is still a lot about your new home town and southern CO in general you do not know yet and your timing of adopting it as such has not necessarily been in your favor.

I'm not so delusional to think that Cos can compete with Denver. Its MSA is 25% of the size of the Denver MSA, so simple mathematics means it will never have the volume of opportunities of our northern neighbor. But it has, historically, always taken steps to improve itself. I have no doubt this trend will continue in the future despite being relatively flat in innovation over the last two decades. It has presented enough opportunity, lifestyle, and cost of living benefits to attract a US military academy, major corporations such as Hewlett Packard, Apple, Intel, and others. It has become home to the US Olympic committee for more than just the training benefits of altitude. It attracts a host of international tourism to the area for various events. Will it be everyone's cup of tea, nope, but a prospect comparable to only eating sh#t, hardly.

Oh goodness. I don't think that they literally meant eating
fecal matter.

It's a wonderful beautiful place. Very friendly neighbors in both neighborhoods we've been in, slower on average food service, and some nice things to do. My asthma is much better here, too.

And Jesus is watching over the city.
