Ive met so many people who have no jobs and moved to COS. I probably hired 4 - 5 people on craigslist (not including people I met in walmart, target, even biking) stating they came here recently and have no jobs... why? Why come here with no job offer in hand? why here out of all different places.

sorry I might cause some controversy, but this baffles me. not trying to be rude or sound like it. Only reason I came to COS is because I was recruited from college. I had no intentions of coming here. But heck, I dont mind the population boom. Makes my property go up! also good for businesses and opening new places. just needs a big mall in my opinion

but honestly I have met so many people coming straight here with no plans...just showed up like heyyy im here...I have no job now but looking

With all of the "exciting" new chain restaurants on the north side many are expecting to work at those places?

I moved to Colorado Springs almost 25 years ago without a job. Many others that I have met will tell the same story. When you want to be someplace special, you do what you have to do. 25 years later I own a business and have wealth beyond my dreams. Some people just don't let obstacles get in the way of their dreams.

Too much wishful thinking and idealism. Not enough practicality and wisdom.

that is some good mentality! By all means I am for people opening businesses here. I love exploring! I love going to new places! Perhaps I should have that mentality! My dreams have always been moving to middle of nowhere type of town "maine georgia virginia" etc just never had the mentality to do it. esp how stable I am now.

maybe one day...

1. Military spouses and dependents. The military moves the soldier here, the family comes with and they need to find work.

2. The pot people. Seems a lot of people have heard that pot is a big booming business and they figure that because they are enthusiastic about smoking it, surely they can get a job working in the industry somewhere. I am imagining that guy from the movie, Idiocracy, saying the line, "I like money..." and believing that therefore he should work at the bank. They find out too late that these jobs can be competitive and may require qualifications beyond "I like weed..."

3. They might have social support here. Friends or family. If people are struggling to make it where they are, it can be wise to try their luck in a different place, and if they know people who will let them crash until they have things figured out, they'll often end up leaning on them.

4. Colorado is really beautiful, has friendly people, and has a reputation for being a desirable place to live, yet it's not quite as high COL as the more desirable areas on either coast. Further north, the winters are more brutal, further south you're in a desert with "hard to survive" conditions. The weather here only occasionally gets severe, it's moderate more than it's not. The reasons people love living here, are often enough the reasons people wind up trying to come here.

5. It's my fault. I keep sharing Lars Leber photoshoots on Facebook, while smugly saying, "I live here. Be jealous."

A very good question. I work in the health care field and I see a large number of people on Medicaid, often out of state. They were unemployed elsewhere, and moved here and are still unemployed. I blame unrealistic expectations that Colorado is some kind of magical place.

It is a magical place, if you play your cards right.

Oh the hippies were worse - millennials are really getting far too much flack especially given the cards they've been dealt.
