The last time I checked the website the shuttles aren't currently running. Even if they are you have kids in car seats so you take preference if you decide to drive to the summit.

The only way to find out if the road is open in advance is to call. Here's the number - (719) 385-7325. Select option 1. I just called. The road is closed at Mile 13.5 (out of 19). The road is not plowed between miles 16 and 19. That could change before you get here.

I suggest you visit their website where you'll find registration and cancellation policies.

Ya i saw their website. 10$ per ticket 24 hrs in qdvance cancellation charges qnd 5$ per ticket for change of schedule. They recommend to book in advance... i was just concerned that if its raining that day it wouldn't be so pleasant to visit the bridge.

The chances of rain are slim to none. By the way, are you aware that the train depot is in Canon City? It's about 20 minutes or so past the gorge entrance. On the off-chance the weather is bad, you could just plan on heading back to the Springs and do some of the other things that were suggested.

Ya i saw that the train depot was a bit far from the gorge. My son absolutely loves train and hence we want to do it unless the weather is unusually bad we have booked our stay in Manitou springs. We dropped the sand dunes plan.
Thanks all for your valuable inputs. It helped us in planning. We added seven falls to our itinerary hoping that it would be scenic.

I would drive through Cheyenne canon, there is a nice waterfall there, and I need road where you go through to old train tunnels and have a beautiful view of the city. It's a free park and I think it is of national Park quality.

The drive to cripple Creek is also really nice;, you can go to the mine there, take the shelf road or skyline drive back to canyon City and see the Royal gorge.

I suspect you mean the Shelf Road or Phantom Canyon. Phantom Canyon is a fairly easy, very beautiful (but slow) drive from Victor to US 50 at Florence just a few miles east of Canon City.

The Shelf Road runs from Cripple Creek into Canon City, but can be tough at times. Skyline Drive is just a short scenic overlook on the west side of Canon City that goes no where, really - and which may not be open this early in the season anyway.
