My wife and I currently live in San Antonio, but we are originally from Kansas. We've been contemplating some different areas to relocate to before we decide to purchase a house here. Pueblo is on the short list. We like the low cost of living here in SA, and that is part of what draws us towards looking at Pueblo. The other reason is that Colorado has a WAY better hiking/climbing/camping scene than SA. Not that SA is bad, but Colorado may be more suited to our lifestyle.

So what are the pros and cons of life in Pueblo? We do like the higher hispanic population, and even though it is in a "flat" area, like we had in Kansas, we would at least be closer to the mountains. What is the economy and job outlook like?

Pros: the mountain views, affordable housing, everything you could want shopping wise is within 5 minute drive. People are mostly friendly. There are no mosquitoes, and no humidity. No bottle deposit. No excise tax on vehicles. No vehicle inspection stickers. Health care seems to be very good, heck the Dr's here in Pueblo figured out my father's infection problem he's had for 6 months in one day. The doctors at Mass General Hospital in Boston failed there!

Cons: The job market blows, big time. Groceries are A LOT more expensive, food quality isn't as good as what I'm used to. Beer is expensive. Anyone know where there's a good place to buy Odell Brewing beer by the case at a fair price? I think $8-9 a six pack is nuts. There are parts of downtown that seem seedy, and there are parts that are tree lined with beautiful old houses. Pueblo West is your typical suburb, some parts seem more trashy than others, a lot of new houses, some built in the 70's. So far we all like it here.

I've also noticed that here in Colorado "uh-huh" is an acceptable parting greeting or substitute for a you're welcome. Very strange and at first it came across as sarcastic/disrespectful, and I'm trying to get used to it instead of good bye or you're welcome. I don't know, uh-huh just screams of I don't give a shiat, go away to me.

Hope some of that helps.

Uh-Huh...that is soo true, I never thought about that!!

When I'm in the South, I have a hard time when someone says, "Hey".
I will say, "what?" (Hey) here is, a way to get someones attention, in the South, it means....Hello.
My Mom and my sister get embarrassed when I answer What??

You know I still say Hey after almost 20 years away from the South. I am thinking about driving to Pueblo when we are visiting Cortez next week just to see it. I am a little nervous about such a small town. I want small but not even 10,000 is soooo small. I wish it was not a 5 hour drive but I think it is due to the road not being a major highway?
