No doubt. I've worked around defense contractors my entire career. I can say that it wasn't completely dominated by former military people. It was probably, on average, about half and half. Granted, it is easier to get into some places with prior military experience because you just know the stuff from being a part of it. However, at my last active duty assignment, I ran several labs where most of the people weren't every in the military.
