My husband and I are moving to Colorado Springs for school in January and we are curious about what jobs are our best bet to get into out there. Here in California my husband is a server at a restaurant and makes $8.00 and hour (California's minimum wage) plus $50-$100 a night in tips. I work at a coffee shop and make $10.00 an hour plus $20-$30 a day in tips. I have looked on craigslist.com at serving jobs in COS and I have noticed that they don't pay servers minimum wage, I guess since they get tips. Not very fair! Do people tip well in COS. In California people tip between 15% and 20%. Also, is there a job out there that would pay better that serving does. My husband has military and food service experience and I have food service and reception experience. Any help would be great!

Check out the Federal Government. The Air Force Academy is looking for Food Service Workers, full and part time
USAJOBS - Search Jobs

In addition, the Feds have a student worker program
USAJOBS - Student Educational Employment (http://www.usajobs.gov/STUDENTS.asp - broken link)

Colorado Springs has many Federal Government Sites and there are many jobs for all levels. Find the jobs at USAJOBS - The Federal Government's Official Jobs Site If your husband is a Veteran then he will have preferences for employment.

I know that ski resorts ( such as crested butte) pay 9 dollars per hour plus tips.....not that helps you for the area you are looking into.
I would imagine ..The Broadmoor...The Cliff House and Mona Lisas (both in Manitou) would be more money!
Your husband might look into DOC.

Cricket Communications. I don't work for a dealer but for the actual company at one of their corporate stores/office

I worked as a server once and it really all depends on where you work and how well you are at it. I then started to work for Carnival Cruise Lines and I was making around 13 hr there plus 1k bonus a month. That was easier and more money that being a server.

We are both full time students so I don't know if a lot of these jobs would work for us. We need jobs where we can work nights and weekends. It seems like serving and other food service/retail jobs are our only options. Unless there are others I don't know about.

If I remember correctly, minimum wage for servers is around $4 an hour, but it's higher for other jobs that aren't expected to receive tips.
