I would live in Castle Rock.....they have a Chik-Fil-A, Home Depot, and the Outlet malls. What else do you need?

I commute from near Academy and Union up to Lakewood. I only travel every other day, so it's not such a big deal. I leave COS at 5:55 and generally get to my desk by 7:15. If I left home 30 minutes later, the commute would take me twice as long.

Find a carpool partner, or there's a van service you can sign up for.

I work in Boulder two or three times a month for a family friend in a chocolate kitchen. If I had to make a 50 mile commute one way more often, I'd move!

There is no logic or reason explanation for spending 2 hours a day driving to work.

Just because you can, it's a free country, doesn't mean you should.

I've known people who've done it because they were hoping it was temporary. They had a job in the Springs, then the boss transfers them to Denver to try to avoid laying them off or something, or they did lose their job and they first one they could find was in Denver - I saw this with a lot of computer guys. So, they started commuting because they had a home and family well-established down here, preferred the Springs, and intended to find work back down here ASAP. I've known people commuting from Denver to the Springs or Pueblo to the Springs or vice versa for the same reasons. Sometimes things worked out, and sometimes they ended up moving - but, interestingly enough, usually not to Denver - usually to some job in another state.

ECEC ~ What did you find appealing about Briargate?

I visited COS for the first time this past weekend and realized that commute is not going to work. Need to live in COS for my husband's job, so I will look at something in that area, for sure!

2bindenver - We were drawn to Briargate because of the school district. We have two children, one in elementary and one in middle school. However, we had some people mention districts 11 and 48 (I think) to us this weekend...any thoughts on those?

You probably mean District 11 and 38. D11 is the largest school district I think. There are some great areas, and some not so great. Generally, the further north part of D11 is better, but I'm sure there are good areas all over D11. D38 is Lewis Palmer and is north of COS, in Monument. Terrific schools too, they generally rival D20 and D12. D12 is the district around the Broadmoor area.

I also wanted to mention that D20 will allow you to "choice" your children into their district even if you live in another district. You just need to provide your own transportation to and from there. I think you only have to do this once, but not sure.... call the D20 Central Registry office and they will be able to tell you more info. This way you could live in D11 but your kids would be able to attend D20 schools. And some D20 schools are pretty darn close to D11, so the drive to and from school wouldn't take much longer.

I have read about the "choice" option but with working full time, providing transportation to and from school would be nearly impossible. The other school district was actually 49, isn't that the one to the east? I'm not sure about it due to the overcrowding and school bond issues I had read about on here.
