Hi,
I'm wondering how the scenery in Colorado(springs, monument, black forest areas) vs Central PA is like. As in, here in Central PA everything is green in the spring and summer. The thing I don't like about PA is 1. high humidity, and 2. in the winter it's COLD, grey, and gloomy. Is Colorado (springs, monument, black forest) brown all over or is there green? Because, I don't want to live somewhere where everything is deserty brown and dead. I like the green here in Central PA during the Spring and Summer, I just can't stand the high humidity and the cold, grey, gloomy winters :\

Green in the Spring (which occurs a bit later here than in PA), and it'll get brown in the Summer. However, the view of the mountains is unlike anything you could imagine in PA, and more than compensates (in my opinion) for the lack of green.

The mountains west of the Springs are the most impressive when you are coming down Monument Hill on I-25 from Denver as they are just west of town. Known as the Rampart range.

And Pikes Peak? Well, that's as good as it gets! 14110 ft. Yea, Colorado has lots of other 14'ers that are higher, but Pikes Peak is one of the most recognized mountains in the States, definitely the most recognized in Colorado.

Got view? Drive to the top of it. On a clear day you can see Raton Pass in New Mexico to the south, Greeley (50 some miles north of Denver) to the north, rows of mountain ranges to the west, the Kansas border to the east. Been a long time since I've been on top, but it is simply awesome!

spent a vacation in Pa a couple years ago~ its green and you cannot see anything! Vines up to the roads and nothing else visible!!

You can SEE in Colorado!!

My definition of Mts is hills got trees and Mts are taller! Pa has a lot of hills! Colorado has a lot more real green than Penn has..

Of course thats why I moved to Colorado!

Well, from the pictures I've seen of Colorado and everything I've heard I think I'd be happy there. I guess I'll have to make a trip out for a 2 week vacation or so though and see if I feel the same way... I love PA's greenness as I've said, I've never been out west though so I really haven't a clue what it's like. I guess I'll find out
Thanks for the replies everyone!

I am originally from western PA. Colorado really is nothing like it. It is brown and dry with few deciduous trees. Nice views though. Colorado tends to be much colder at night (think negative temps, single digits and teens) with sunny days in the 20s, 30, 40s through the winter. Western PA actually does not have bad weather and our winters here in CoS are long with the majority of our snow coming in March and April, but snow starts in October, usually. It's a long, often cold but sunny winter, with the snow not sticking around long--but that's why is is brown.

It's different!

I lived in the Chicago area for 38 years. I've been told the weather is similar to the east coast. The basic rule thumb is: If it rains a lot, it's green. If it's green you have higher humidity and bugs. So the trade off here is it's generally more "brown" but much more "livable" and comfortable. When we moved here it took me a couple weeks to get used to the low humidity but seriously, I wish we would have moved here a long time ago.
