I'm hoping someone can help me out with my question but I'm looking into moving to Colorado Springs.

My question is what's job market like there?
What areas are good and bad?
What would my biggest concern be as a single women moving there?

Thank you!

To answer your question about the job market we would need to know what field you work in. Job market here is like everywhere else, tight.

Tons of medical related jobs here. I can't count on all of my extremities how many hostpital related businesses aside from Hospitals themselves there are here. There are so many! Makes me wish I had gone after that profession early on.

I'm not sure about the medical industry, but I can tell you from personal experience that the service industry in COS is hard to get into right now, too.

I've been working in one of the local Italian restaurants for over four years now, and I've seen a lot of people come and go. In the last year, though, I can count the number of people we've hired on two hands. We haven't been hiring as many people b/c we have pretty decent staff and not as many people have been quitting. The turnover at my restaurant is very low.

As for other restaurants, they just aren't hiring as much; however, if you've got some experience and have a level head, most places will at least take a look at you.

The best time (you probably already know this) to go apply is Monday-Thursday between 2:00pm and 4:00pm. When you finish filling out the app, ask to speak to a manager; DO NOT settle for a hostess, server, or bartender b/c the app will probably never make it to the person who needs to see it. Only give it to a manager--preferably a front-of-house manager.

The best places to look in COS are the high-volume restaurants, i.e. Old Chicago, Rock Bottom, Elephant Bar, etc., and newer restaurants b/c they typically have the highest turnover. More established, fine-dining type places are hard to get into b/c the turnover is very low.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Single women friendly ZIP codes I listed here: //www.city-data.com/forum/color...l#post11715595

Job hunting is the pits around here...wait till the recession eases unless you have a solid back-up plan or already have a job when moving. Doesn't really matter if that's here or anywhere in the US. The grass isn't greener unless you have the money, family or a job to back you up.
