Is there a good resource for searching for rentals WITH acreage in Colorado? Online is hit and miss and we couldn't find any guides or anything great in the papers while we were there.

Is there some resource we are missing?

Probably the reason you are coming up with few hits is because Colorado is either very rural or very urban with little transition between the two. Unlike back east where I live where houses with 10 acre parcels is very common, you never really see much of that in Colorado.

I think partly the reason comes down to water issues and making it essential for most people to be plugged into some sort of city water, hence ending up in a suburban neighborhood.

Where in Colorado? It's kind of a big state. Check Craigslist or Google Colorado rentals. Bring lots of money. Good luck.

Use the local newspaper. It would help if we knew what area. Waneroo is also correct, you are either out in the boonies completely away from town or in town. The properties near town with acreage will break your wallet, unless you can afford it. Keep in mind, everyone wants that..except those who don't want land to maintain. But, this is also why (IMHO) condos aren't common in CO. Everyone wants land, a view of the mountains, etc.

This is one comment that absolutely drives me nuts. What does this even mean? Is this just an attempt by the locals to scare new people from coming to the state? Rentals are no more expensive there than anywhere else in the country so cut it out.

We run our own business, and will be "bringing lots of money".

Thanks

renting a house with acreage costs more; mainly due to supply & demand.

Colorado is a great place to live and many people know that, so rents can be more expensive than some other areas, especially if you are looking for acreage. Is there a specific area you would like to live, mountains, foothills, plains, western slope? Do you need to be near a city or an airport or can you be in a very rural area.

You could always try a realtor that specializes in ranch properties and see if he has anyone that has a vacant property for sale that they are willing to rent for a year or two.

I second that!

Also you have to beware where you rent if you are going to have livestock. You really need to check out the water situation. Especially now that La Nina is in charge of the weather bringing the drought back.

Eastern Colorado is cheaper and the water access is better.

Also, I don't know what acreage rents for in Colorado. I'm sure the eastern plains are pretty cheap and rents like elsewhere but the mountains are going to be pretty expensive especially in high demand areas surrounded by public lands like Gunnison or Montrose. Buena Vista is cheaper but some hippy friends in the area advise that renting acreage could be pretty high there. Renting a townhouse or even a regular house is 'reasonable'.

Good thing you're bringing lots of money, you'll most likely need it in Mountain Colorado. And, as much as I dislike the sprawl blob, rents are pretty reasonable these days there if you have a good job. And I will there are some good resturants (for Colorado) there too.

Actually rentals and anything here is more expensive than a lot of the rest of the country. I apologize for giving advise and wishing you luck.

I know how jazz feels now.
