Just got back from a several-day sojourn back and forth across Colorado. I never had to wear anything heavier than a jeans jacket. The northern mountains have the most snow, but it's too warm and the snow on the ground is melting down. The Front Range is dry as a bone, with temperatures near 70°. The southern mountains have little snow in most places and have warm temperatures. In southeastern Colorado, after a record dryland crop harvest, there has been so little precipitation since early August that the winter wheat doesn't even have enough soil moisture to sprout.

As most readers of this forum know, I don't give a rat's patoot about the ski areas, but the lack of decent snowpack if we have a dry winter will raise hell with both agriculture and streamflows--and that is an issue worth worrying plenty about. Fortunately, December is normally the driest month of the winter season in most of Colorado, anyway, but the long-term seasonal precipitation predictions remain troubling for Colorado, especially for the southern half of the state. From the Federal Drought Monitor seasonal assessment:

Quote:
Due mainly to climate anomalies associated with moderate to strong wintertime La Niña episodes, drought is expected to persist and/or expand from the southern Rockies, central Great Basin into central Nevada . . .
So, where is the snow? Well, for the most part in Colorado, not here and what is here is not currently staying.

Its minus 4 here in Dixon IL right now. We have already had several snowstorms. Seems like we are getting our January weather in December. Wish I could ship some of this snow to CO for the folks who want it. I watch the Canon City weather and its been around 60 while we haven't had a high near 30 since Thanksgiving. Wish i was in warm Canon City!!

I just got back from "snow patrol" and got some nice pictures of the light and I do mean light snow in downtown Pueblo. According to KOAA the heaviest snowfall is going to be tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night. If that is the case I will have more pictures.

These pictures were taken from the top of the parking garage on Main Street.

This is my favorite high rise in Pueblo. The Wells Fargo Building.

This is the historic train depot in downtown. I used my car lights to get a better picture of the snow.

yeah where is the snow Denver was supposed to get? Looking for snow, go to Winter Park. We were there last weekend and it was very wintry, snowy, cold. It was snowing so hard we left early because we were afraid they were going to close the road.

Not a single flake in Grand Junction, which suits me just fine. Let it rain, let it rain in the valley. Let it snow, let it snow in the mountains.

THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT.

* SNOW ACCUMULATION...SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL BE HIGHLY VARIABLE
ACROSS PUEBLO COUNTY WITH 1 TO 3 INCHES ACROSS THE EASTERN
PORTIONS OF THE COUNTY... WITH 3 TO 6 INCHES NEAR THE
MOUNTAINS.

* WIND...WINDS WILL BE EAST TO NORTHEAST AT 5 TO 15 MPH.

* IMPACT...ROADWAYS WILL BECOME SLICK AND ICY IN SPOTS LATE THIS
AFTERNOON AND OVERNIGHT...ESPECIALLY NEAR THE MOUNTAINS
