Not sure what you mean by good shops, but Salida being bigger there are more stores than Buena Vista. No stores at all of any kind in Nathrop, except the Rock Doc. Salida has WalMart and Safeway, if that’s what you are looking for. Both Salida and BV have cute downtowns for shopping.

You could go to Mt. Princeton hot springs, if that’s your thing. I’m sure that any normal activities that time of year will be at a minimum due to COVID.

The house we rented has a private pool and hot tub that runs off the hot springs . Just looking for some outdoorsy things in the area though . I seen a fish hatchery ? Is that one open year round ?

That would be the Leadville National Fish Hatchery. Find their contact information at: https://www.fws.gov/mountain-prairie.../leadville.php

There is hiking in the area. At the end of Main Street in Buena Vista you can find the Barbara Whipple Trail which will give you expansive views over the valley. Depending on weather you can drive to the top of Cottonwood Pass, or even go down the other side into Taylor Park. Also depending on weather you could rent a Jeep and drive around the Four Mile Area.

Up in the Leadville area you can access the old Army 10th Mountain Division Huts and trail system.

Lots of swas to hike and fish around in around Salida, just make sure your fishing license is up to date for access to any of them.

Thank You!

Yes, will have kids with us. So the fish hatchery seemed like a good idea! I also checked that trail out! looks good and easy one to do with the family. I am reading reviews and whats the difference between that one and Broken Boyfriend trail to South trail?

Also, what are some good local breakfast spots / dinner spots ? Thank you again for the info

Ever hear of the Chalk Lake Fishing Site ? Looks quiet place to take the kids to throw the poles ? Have oyu ever been ?

This forecast projects snow and / or ice / rain 6 of 7 days before Thanksgiving and 3 of 4 after. Clear on Thanksgiving itself. https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/sa...weather/332185

That's in town. Currently projected as less than 1 inch of snow per day. The ice would probably be worse. Obviously could completely change by then for better or worse. Also could be worse or much worse in mountains above.

Barely getting to 40 degrees. You and kids going to fish or hike in that? Lakes could have ice as it is probably getting down to 10 degrees. Wind if it happens could make that feel much colder.

Is Hatchery open then? I'd call and check. May be for entry but not sure about any services. Hunting allowed on grounds at that time.

Will you have 4wd / awd or chains? Probably should in case.
