My husband and I are planning on moving to Colorado later this year.
I was born in Denver and I lived there on and off for a couple of years. But it has been a while since I have lived there.

We are unsure of where we want to move.
We want a place that is SAFE. we have a daughter and we want to try for more. We are looking for a place that is affordable, close to the city, natural disasters, such as tornadoes, flooding, and earthquakes are NOT common. But we DO however want snowy weather in the winter.

We were thinking boulder but I am unsure really. We just HAVE to get out of this texas heat. So please if anyone could please help us out with ideas that meet our moving criteria please share

PLEASE HELP?

Default No natural disasters

Grand Junction, access to many amazing sites. Fairly cold winter with little snow. Dry summer that is tolerable. Little wind and again, no tornadoes, earthquakes, floods to speak of, etc

Not perfect but less crime than Denver area.

Making a living can be more challenging than Front Range.

Budget and jobs situation are primary, although I gather that the more-tornadic area is eastern Colorado, where it's the Plains and moer possibility of storms- but no work, and no mountains. If you want to move to a less humid/mountain environement, there are many, Colorado and elsewhere. What are other priorities?
(Every summer here in the East, I obsess about high dry mountain air and try to make whatever vacations I take in such places. I could never live in a more humid environment. I feel for ya!

Some potential respondents will probably want to hear a bit more about your desires. For instance, it would be helpful to have a sense of what "affordable" means to your family. For many people, Boulder is not very affordable.

And, with all due respect, one can never have a guarantee against natural disasters. Flooding is not all that common in Colorado, though those of us who were in Estes Park for the Big Thompson Canyon flood will never forget that event. Forest fires are a very real danger during the dry summer months -- as you no doubt know from living in Texas.

Also, when you say "close to the city," do you mean close to Denver? And, how close? Close enough to commute to work every day -- or close enough to drive in for special events now and then?

Suburban environment? Foothills community? Mountain town? Will you be looking for employment - or bringing your work/income with you? Is your daughter school-age? What type of educational opportunities do you want to offer her and her possible future siblings?

Other than Boulder and/or your Denver experience, are there areas of the state that you are familiar with or drawn to? It's clear that you are desperate to move away from where you now live. We can help you best if you can paint a somewhat more defined picture of where you would like to move TO.

Have you been to Manitou Springs right outside of Colo. Spgs? I enjoyed living there & at the time it seemed less expensive than Boulder.

Number 1 concern in this economy is a job.

sday9698:
Should We move. If so where to?
When I read this question, my response is this. If someone is so uncertain about moving that it gets posted on a forum, then most likely, you are not yet ready to me. Give it some time, and your answer will come internally.

I was kind of beating around the bush with the same idea in mind. Thanks, Cosmic, for getting right down to it. Agreed!
