I am from the Dallas/Fort Worth, Tx area, originally from Ohio, and I am now looking to move to Co. I am very much in the hockey community here(don't make fun, there is a decent hockey community here), but I have always wanted to live in Co and I know the hockey there is pretty decent. I also know that the hockey tends to stick to Denver area but I am tired of the Metro thing. DFW if you know what I mean.

Anyway, what would be a nice location to be close enough for hockey but also close to skiing. I would also like if there was a small town center for shopping, restaurants, pubs, etc. And if its a good bike travel location, awesome. I also want to be able to drive to denver within a decent amount of time for some sports spectating. I have looked into the larger areas, Co springs, boulder, fort collins, also smaller areas, golden, lyons... I can't really find what I am looking for yet. I like the sound of Fort Collins but it is a bit big and crowded.

If you can help me with this... Thanks and your awesome

Also if you know of good jobs and a school for firefighting training + more awesomeness

IIRC, Monument, CO has a hockey rink and leagues, is a smallish town about ten miles north of COLO SPGS. About 2-3 hours to skiing.

Red Rocks CC in Golden has a firefighter prep program.

Red Rocks Community College :: Fire Science Technology

Golden is part of the metro area, but is on the edge of it, not so urban. Very close to skiing, the last town in the metro on I-70 before going into the mtns.

Steamboat has skiing without the drive as well as adult hockey leagues at Howelsen ice area, small town center, great biking, hiking, etc.

Most of the suburbs of Denver have a strong hockey presence and most of the YMCAs run very decent leagues out of their rinks. The leagues out of the YMCA of Boulder Valley and the Ice Centre at the Promenade are good options. My husband captained teams out of the Lafayette Y for years (Boulder Valley). Apex in Arvada is another good option. None of these are the small town you describe however. Sounds like a mountain town might be your cup of tea but that does require a much more flexible budget for COL and certainly doesn't support the close proximity to Denver you mentioned you want.

Thanks for all the replies, some good information.

I was looking at red rocks cc for the firefighting thing so I am very interested in that.
I was also looking int Evergreen... it looks to have a small community feel and not real far from everything. Any input on that?

Also, could I get some input on Manitou Springs and Nederland? Both small and not real far right? Hows the commute to Hockey rinks and skiing?

Thanks again, I appreciate it very much
