I spend several days off and on the Grand Mesa the past few weeks escaping the miserable inferno here and enjoying the colors and cooler temps up there. Here's some pics:

Island Lake two weeks ago. It's lower now, all the reservoirs are very very low.

Beautiful photos Jim! This is the time of year I really miss living near the Grand Mesa. The color display is phenomenal!

The Grand Mesa is Colorados undiscovered gem! I had a fabulous 2 night camping trip at the Ward Lake campground in early August with no mosquitos this year. My senior national parks pass gets me into the campground for just $7 a night. Showers for $2 at the RV campground just up the road. Another $2 buys a a BIG scoop of ice cream for a nice treat sitting on the deck at the edge of a lake. The Grand Mesa is hard to beat.....any time of the year, but it is especially fabulous in the fall.

Thanks for the great photos. Too bad I missed it this year. Had planned on coming but had too many problems going on and too many things to do.

Grand Mesa is actually one of the last places in CO I've never been too. Had always planned on driving out there for fun from Vail but never made it, even though I have been to Grand Junction many times.

I think you'd love it. It reminds me somewhat of the pocono lake country of northeast PA. Put the Grand Mesa on you must visit list next time you make it out to Colorado.
