THE Captain Jack Carey who was killed on his bicycle when he cut right in front of a truck in order to make a U-turn while cycling with his wife near Lizard Head? Back around 2009? Obviously, I had no idea of your connection. My apologies.

Yea, was his fault. Truly just a bad accident.

Oh c'mon, we all did it and we all survived. Many of us before there even was an SUV. Youth is resilient and creative. The only preparation needed is deciding whats for dinner the night before.

I think this applies to MOST of us, but I suspect there are a few posters on here who never did anything in their lives that required spontaneity or taking a risk. Some people are so insecure they need to have everything figured out before they will step beyond the false security of their everyday world. God forbid that they should forget to dot an I or cross a T.

My observation is that way too many of today's youth are neither creative nor resilient. They have spent their whole lives passively entertained, with most everything given to them. They may know how to play (and some of them don't even know that), but they sure as hell don't know how to work. Their understanding of the world about them is shallow and often ignorant. One sees that in many of the inane posts on this forum. They don't know how to research, how to find answers, or how to function beyond their shallow little world. They have more information at their fingertips on the internet than any of we oldsters had access to back when at a major public library, yet they can't seem to make use of it--they never "learned to learn." One can see that in their useless unfocused "I don't know anything about Colorado, tell me about it" posts. I call those "gimme pig" posts.

These type of youth, unfortunately, are programmed for failure--the failure all the more spectacular if they are cut off from the pursestrings of Mommy and Daddy or are relocated into some place that actually requires some level of self-sufficiency.

To be sure, there are some wonderful exceptions to that stereotype. Those kids will do fine. The scary part is that they are becoming exceptions, rather than the rule. Unfortunately, Colorado seems to be a magnet for many of today's pretty pathetic youth because of the state's seeming attractiveness as a place to goof off and have fun--usually while those people are "on the dole" from somebody else--parents, friends, the welfare system, etc.--to support them partly or totally.

Yes we know. "Kid's today...." But, not in my experience, I have a young 20 something and watching her and her friends in high school I was quite impressed by their sobriety, lack of clannishness, and communitarian orientation. And of course when we were that age the old crotchety types said the same thing. Nor have I been that impressed with how the silent generation and boomers have run things once they've got into positions of power (it's too soon to tell about generation X).

If you find a job, try to stay as close to work as possible because when it snows, you can potentially get stuck or even spend hours sitting in traffic trying to get home. It can be very frustrating. If you are huge into the ski scene, then Vail may be something more to your liking as opposed to Boulder.

Morrison, outside of Denver. Red Rocks amphitheater is there, and you are close to Denver, as well. Also, outskirts of Golden might work, up into the canyon. Though a FLA commute does not involve icy or snowy roads, so the commute issue is one you may want to consider.

Nederland is wonderful. FYI: It is definitely a hippie throwback kinda town, and your closest work options would be a 30 min. drive down the canyon into boulder, depending on what kind of 'entertainment and music' culture you are looking for. Ned has lots of amazing bluegrass and talented musicians...just not super diverse. Denver metro is prob. better for you all, for jobs and lifestyle, as an initial choice. You can always move later.

If you want the true mountain experience, do this: Live out near Leadville and commute to Vail to work.

Along that vein live in Fairplay or Alma and commute to Summit County over Hoosier Pass everyday for work. My brother did that for 6 years
