This weekend, my wife and I made reservations to go horseback riding in Estes park with Sombrero Ranch. The reviews on-line seemed pretty good but I'm just wondering if any C-D users have had any experiences with them. We are really looking forward to this and it sounds like a lot of fun.

***Edit*** Mods, please feel free to move this to the Colorado forum instead of it being here in the Denver forum.

Wink Horse business

If with no experience with the outfitter in question, my suggestion that they are not the only game in town (should for some reason one have second thoughts when visiting in person).

There are a number of different horse providers in Estes Park. If memory serves, not only in town, but also from such establishments as the YMCA of the Rockies, and also the Park Service (or, more likely their contractor, based in Moraine Park) from within Rocky Mountain National Park. Do know that the route followed is probably determined in advance by choice of provider. One might also inadvertently get lassoed into an expensive, if otherwise questionable, chuck wagon lunch or dinner as part of such a package, if not paying attention.

One could probably only travel through the rather extensive private property of the YMCA if using them as the outfitter. My belief that they also travel into adjacent and ever popular RMNP. There are certainly plenty of horse convoys to be seen there in season. If wishing something more authentic and just one's own group with a guide, look more closely. Most everything I've seen are large groups. Although many horse owners travel to RMNP on their own.

If 'this weekend' means Labor Day, good luck. It is one of the busiest weekends in a crowded Estes Park summer. September is generally a lovely weather month, but if popular, with less activity than during the height of summer. These outfitters will each surely have different dates defining their end of season.

They got 4-1/2 stars on Trip Advisor and 4 on Yelp. You can go to those sites and read the comments.

I have. I was just curious if any C-D users had any experience with them.
