Hello,

I prefer the cold climate and the Alamosa area appeals to me for both price and temperature. Of course there are internet stories and posts about pretty much everywhere. Can anyone dispel or confirm some of the below items:

BTW the land I would like to buy would be in the desert and undeveloped.

1) Colorado hates tiny homes, they will fight you every inch if the way

2) Colorado hates solar, it takes years to get the permits.

3) You cannot be offgrid in Colorado. If you are located by a power source, you must be connected to it.

You may know what you are looking at / for with Alamosa's climate but others might not.

So fwiw,

7-9 months of nightly freezing temps.
An average of 47 nights per year below zero.

22 nights below -10 this past winter. 6 of them below -20 in January. https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/al...019&view=table


Tiny homes being encouraged to some degree in some towns (like Salida and perhaps Canon City). But I dunno how on balance it compares to elsewhere.

OP, you can’t talk about what Colorado as a whole likes or doesn’t like. Each jurisdiction has their own laws. If you are talking about the San Luis Valley (please see other threads here), then you can just look at the codes for whatever county your land is in. I’m pretty sure all counties have their building and zoning codes on-line. Obviously if your land is in a homeowners association, you are talking about a whole other set of rules.

Define hate and off-grid.

Many, many places(most/all?) in CO are zoned. That means there are regulations to be met to live there. There are not typically state overlays on zoning except in special circumstances. There is county zoning, city zoning, special development districts, and HOAs. Each an add their own layer of requirements.
