Vision67: Thank you for educating me on the wonderful information you have posted. I live in the North East Coast of New York State, and most of what I come across are Mosquitoes.

I never wanted to live in Florida because of the large roaches they have, among many other things,

I think that if I ever came across a Tarantula, close to a foot long, as you depicted it, I WOULD DIE ON THE SPOT.

If you haven't seen it already, here's this year's Official 2020 Miller Moth Thread.

Please, people: Don’t panic about placid, slow-moving tarantulas. They are pretty darned docile; just leave them alone! I’ve even transfered one or two onto a stick so I could carefully carry them OFF the road. They are extremely fragile despite their intimidating appearance. I always hate seeing them squashed by vehicle tires. Ditto for the lizards and gopher snakes.

We get them in our area every year and enjoy the “migration”. As for big waves of them, the only time I saw that was the first time I visited Big Bend NP. There were bunches of huge ones crossing roads there, so many that even though I tried to avoid driving over them, inevitably there would be a crunch or two, most likely running over ones that had already gotten rolled over.

I got to see tarantulas in person before and it is great. Enjoy - they're harmless!

They are really harmless. You'd have to try hard to get bit by one and yeah that might hurt but it is extremely unlikely. Not sure about SLV.

As far as I'm aware there are no tarantulas in the SLV. I've never heard of anyone ever seeing one out here. I think the climate might be too harsh for them, compared to the warmer and lower elevations of the plains east of I-25.

The tarantulas are scarce this year down here in the Four Corners.

I have seen a whopping eight of them since Oct. 2. Last year they started showing up by mid-September and we counted more than 30 of them by early November. I think the weird weather hurt them—barely any rain or snow from mid-winter till now.

Yup. Too droughty for even a desert animal!
