Just a heads up, this is not universal. Colorado Springs School District 11 accepts 14 years of prior experience. It should also have openings in ESL.

Thank you for this feedback. I do know years of service depends on the district. Some give 5, some give 10, others give some other random number. Still, it’s good to be realistic! Thank you for that!

Yes, it does vary from district to district. Those in more desirable districts are less accommodating. As a former teacher with a still-valid credential I checked out different district salary schedules and was surprised like you how low compensation really was. Some schools pay more for hard-to-fill positions like special education or for positions in a school in a rough area.

Yes the pay is so disheartening!

It's a vocational curse. (Teaching and Ministry)

WY is quite close to Greeley. Very well funded schools, but current state budget challenges, and a highly sought state for teachers. No state income tax for residents who also work in WY.

Consider WFH career options for flexibility and higher pay. ($150-$300/ hr with no commute is a pretty good gig for someone who needs flexability to pursue a church plant.). Live wherever needed for success of building relationships.

I don't know if Cherry Creek School District has residency requirements, but if they don't you could always live somewhere in the Aurora Public Schools boundary. It'll be slightly cheaper, and you might be able to get your kids into CCSD instead.

The OP is already struggling with the limited diversity of the Front Range cities in Colorado. Wyoming is significantly less diverse. It is not a place I would recommend for a transracial family.

And neither is Aurora... racially diverse with low cost housing for op.

Gotta keep your options (and mind) open when researching an expensive relocation.

If I were a minority, I'd rather pay a little more to live in a diverse area than pay less for the privilege of living in a lily-white locale like Wyoming where they're much more likely to get side-eye for being a mixed-race family. Sorry, not sorry. Aurora may be a poor fit, but Wyoming is a terrible one.

Having lived, worked and owned in both CO and WY, and worked in ESL edu, business advising, and ministry in each state...I will leave it to OP to judge what's best for them.

WY k-12 schools rival the best in the USA.
WY neighbors are some of the best in the world, (unless you are arriving as a greenie).
WY educated engineers and teachers are some of the most competent and proactive, creative and responsible I have hired and worked along side. And to think it is just next door to CO (And closer to Greeley than Aurora )
