Wife and I absolutely love going to RMNP and she has a Senior Pass for National Parks. We go mainly during the "rut" and I've got some fantastic pictures of Bull Elk grazing. Actually, seeing the peaks of RMNP, from Loveland, is one of reasons we returned to Colorado from northeastern Florida. Turned out that mountains were "our thing", not beaches.

If, and when we can, we like going to the pro-rodeo in Estes Park, called Rooftop Rodeo.

Thing is, there have been Bull and Cow Elk roaming right here in Loveland on south Wilson and Eisenhower Blvd., by the creek.

Been to Upper and Lower parts of Yellowstone N.P. also.

There are other National Parks in Colorado that are just as beautiful. You may need to drive a bit further though.
We hike in many of them and have days where we rarely see another soul other than wildlife.
We buy an annual pass and get lots of value out of it. You only need to make 4-5 visits for it to pay for itself.
four National Parks in CO. But other monuments etc Black Canyon of the Gunnison looks really nice and I have heard from several people who have been there. We were kind of close a few years ago and maybe should of taken that extra drive. It's on the bucket list.

We really liked Black Canyon and the road through the San Juan Mtns. when visiting our daughter. It seemed much less crowded than RMNP.

I live in Washington & was a lifer Californian before that. As a local, I learned of lots of places to hike, camp, off-road etc. that were only known of if you live there. My kid in Colorado is doing the same with skiing, hiking, backpacking etc.

If you can find places that aren't so well known, it's not so crowded & you will have a better experience.
