Which ski town would you recommend for short term rental market?

All of them.

Are you planning to buy and rent short-term to vacationers? Depending on the size/bedroom count of the unit, consider renting part of it to a local worker who needs housing. Some establishments in Summit County for example have had to slash operating hours due to being unable to hire enough employees because there's nowhere to live (every other unit is a short term rental).

It depends on what you want to spend on a unit, if you want the $$$ places or the $$$$. Summit county is in a bit of a pinch right now due to a lot of people relocating there and taking units of the market. I'd be inclined to say somewhere in Grand County, it's close enough to have reliable Denver weekend demand and it's got more space to expand and build and have new units.

Georgetown could be an interesting option as well, seeing as it's become the de facto base 'resort' for Loveland. I'd say you could reliably rent out a spot almost year round there. Loveland stays open longer than other resorts as well.

But, you have to pick a place you enjoy going to as the owner as well!

The further you are from Denver/I-70, the riskier the investment in my opinion.
I was working in Steamboat when 9/11 happened, we had a worse year and took longer to come back than Summit/Vail.
The company I worked for actually pulled out of Steamboat within a couple years and focused on Vail/Beaver Creek.

Del Norte is reasonable compared to most of them, and you are a stones throw to Wolf Creek. An old timer told me they had 908 inches of snow in 1978, at the pass. I also found Red River, NM to be quite interesting. Not an expert on CO at all, but have done some exploring.
