I am looking at two areas of Colorado to move...Cotopaxi and Livermore...
can anyone tell me anything about those areas? I have found homes
in both of the areas and I would like to compare them against one
another for weather, crime...etc... both are offering the seclusion we
are looking for...hope someone can give me some insight about the
areas... Thanks...
I don't know anything about Livermore, but I was born in Salida, so I've been to Cotopaxi a lot. Although I've never spent a lot of time there, I do know that the school is really small, the community is tightnit, and I don't think there is really any crime. It's about 30 mins from both Salida and Canon City, which is where you would have to go to do any shopping. The only store I know of in Cotopaxi is the gas station on Hwy 50.
Cotopaxi is in the Big Horn Sheep canyon (and there are lots of sheep in that area!) so the Arkansas river is right there. The Sangre de Cristo range is also nearby and really cool. It seems to me that it might stay pretty cold in that canyon in the winter, but like I said, I haven't spent much time there, so I don't know for sure. And there are areas that are pretty spread out so the tightness of the canyon could be avoided.
Also, I know that most people commute to Salida or Canon for work, which can be brutal in the winter when the road gets icy. A huge industry in this area is rafting, so be prepared to see A LOT of that going on in the summer, as well as fishing.

Thanks Katie....we just visited Salida in Aug...loved that area too...but
found a great house in Cotopaxi...I figured that is was going to be a little
too isolated as far as schools and such....I know that Salida has a new
hospital...but I was freaked out when Walmart was closing at 10...haha
although, in all reality...most people do not do much shopping after that
time...but I was needing something for my husband....had to wait until
the next day though...
Livermore is a very small, close knit town in between Ft. Collins and Laramie in the Laramie Foothills. Its primarily a cattle ranching area, along with some farming activity. There are many there that go back three generations or more, such as the Roberts family. Being fortunate enough to have a modest family cabin some 12 miles NW of there, I don't think you'd find it as welcoming to newcomers as Cotapaxi.

Thanks...it's tidbits like this that we are needing to know...
So what exactly are you looking for in lifestyle, work, etc? How close do you want to be to the 'big city' conveniences?
