Tell me about Creede, CO? Is there a decent grocery store there? Are winters very harsh? Is the town interesting or run down? Can you see sunsets or does it sit in a tight rock canyon? I could work at the post office there. Janva

Creede is at the mouth of a box canyon. The area opens up to the east of town, but the town itself is hemmed in by the canyon walls. It is a former mining town, now dependent on summer tourism. There are some small stores in town. The nearest "chain" grocery store is a Safeway in Monte Vista, 52 miles distant. Wal-mart (if one is so inclined) is 69 miles away in Alamosa; Sam's Club 191 miles away at Pueblo.

Winters are harsh, summers short. See here: Weatherbase: Historical Weather for Creede, Colorado, United States of America . It can freeze just about any day of the year--and snow in every month. Creede doesn't get a huge amount of snow (the surrounding mountains do), but what falls tends to stay on the ground all winter.

It is totally "out there". I know this first hand!!
You have to be a "Total" mountain person to live there, however,....my favorite person in the whole entire world,..lives there!!!!!
I don't need to tell you what you need to have to live there, right?
Please don't oust me off of the forum!!

Thanks for the helpful reply jazzlover on Creed, CO. I have always lived in cold places now in Pinedale, WY at 7125 feet. Maybe I am tired of putting on a coat every day in the evening to avoid the chill. I should probably keep looking for a mountain town that is not as cold. Janva
