You'll know how to drive in snow by the time you get here.
Haha...that should probably do it...

When I first joined those were the majority of my questions as I was trying to find lots of snow. I lived in Michigan for 30 years and was trying to find cities with more snow then where I grew up at. I have since narrowed my cities down, but if there was a sticky, I wouldn't have had to ask as many questions as I did.

And actually that link that "Jazzlover" gave has been one of the best if not THE best one I have used so far.
Mike from back east answered this, and I will say also, people don't look at these stickies. Sometimes they sit there for days if not weeks with no new posts.

I think a lot of us are just venting on a very tiresome topic. And the topic was: "before you post". Coflower started this thread.

If you don't want to answer a question then don't. City-data info is not necessarily correct. If you feel like you have already answered a question then ignore the post and move on. Some of don't have hours and hours to research every question that we have. I answer questions on areas that I am familiar with whenever I can. If I don't want to answer a question then I don't. I don't whine/***** about helping people. All you have to do is ignore the post and move on to the next.

Brilliant! Awesome.

Boohoowaa!!!!!!

I don't think anybody with thousands of posts and years of tenure on here should ever appologize to a newbie.

Here's what the newbie should be saying, "Thank you for that info, I'll consider that."

Use the search newbie. Save the drama. Welcome to City-Data. Check your opinions and your emotions at the door. This is not personal and it's not daycare.

Actually, a number of forums have similar issues.

I think this is a bunch of us long-timers letting off steam. If you don't want to listen to us whine, as you call it, ptin2010, then take your own advice and ignore it.

If I had chosen to ignore it I would have. Instead I chose to make a comment just like the rest of you did. Hopefully you can see how much it sounds like whining as McDowg put it.

Not whining, we're just trying to school the newbies in how to play nice in the sandbox. We give generously of our time to those who make the effort to meet us halfway. I'd define halfway as a person who says "I've seen the threads on X but I still need to know Y and Z about that .... "

One thing that bugs us is when a newbie gives us that breathless "I love your state, tell me EVERYTHING." No. Use the index.

At least the newbie isn't saying *I hate your state...convince me otherwise*...I guess I am misunderstanding the concept of "forum"...
pretty much means a gathering together for discussion...and that
is all the newbies are trying to do too...yes, perhaps we sometimes
missed a thread about something that we are interested in...and in
doing so it makes our question a "repeat"...but so freaking what....
don't take the time to answer it if it has put your panties in a
bunch just by reading the darn thing...and maybe someone else
will have an interesting other two cents to put in on the same
topic...

Would you be a dear and separate your posts into paragraphs?

That would make them much easier for us to read.
