Hi ~ we're considering moving to Pueblo and have a few questions...

We are very concerned about pollution, and we have read that Pueblo has good air quality. Is that true? Are the skies blue? Is there smog?

Also, are there a lot of factories or any research / laboratories near Pueblo ~ anything that can contaminate air, water or soil ?

Thanks so much in advance!

Pueblo is not a huge city, and is not in a valley or up against the mountains, so the air quality is pretty good. I would imagine a little bit of smog may be visible along the horizon on cold winter mornings, as it is in Colorado Springs.

Pueblo is known as "The Steel City." The Oregon Steel mill is there... its smoke stacks pretty much dominate the skyline. Also, the state's largest coal fired power plant is on the south edge of town. Its not the most polluted city you'll ever see, but Pueblo has an industrial past, and its pretty obvious.

Nope no smog out here. It's beautiful. My asthma and allergies are much better since moving here from a large city.

The steel mill is shut down except for a small recycling operation: no smelters operating. The power plant is out of town and very down wind, does not affect Pueblo's air quality. I don't know to what you are referring about the "nuclear storage" as the only superfund sites are in Denver--one in the Golden area and one in Adams county north of the metro area. the only thing that is dirty about Pueblo is the dirt--a lot of dry dust in certain seasons.

Talking It is not ugly....and pretty clean

I lived there for two years and then relocated to the western part of Colorado, Lake City...Pueblo is nice but if you are thinking of relocating to Colorado...choose Pueblo West....a small community to the west of Pueblo...nice and clean there...great schools...lots to do...and parks out the wa zoo....beautiful backdrop of the mountains always...
