Hi All,

I have been reading your forum and think you guys are full of information which would help me with my concerns.

We are currently military stationed in a very small town in Texas and my husband will be getting out this August. He is looking in Police Departments in Colorado, which means we would need to move .... I am very happy about that because I absolutely love Colorado.

I do however, not know where the heck to move too, as I have only been there on vacation for skiing and nothing else. We have two daughters, one going to kindergarten and the other is still in daycare. We are looking for a safe town, great family values but also big enough to enjoy life.

I would really appreciate if anyone had some information about areas in CO. We are looking at making a trip when he gets back from Iraq in June to see all the areas we are interested in and then make our final decision.

Thanks in advance

If he wants to work in prisons, there are a bunch in the area of Florence, CO, west of Pueblo. Cost of living there is low.

The entire Front Range, from Fort Collins to Pueblo is where the bulk of the people live and the jobs are. Boulder is way expensive but there are nearby towns that are reasonable. Denver can be pricey in parts. Colorado Springs area is affordable and has a huge base of Army/USAF retirees as well as being home to Fort Carson, which is growing greatly this year and the next 2-3 years. Pueblo and Canon City are probably the most affordable.

If you are interested in living in the mountains, which are much more expensive, but less crowded than the places that Mike mentioned, I would suggest the Roaring Fork Valley (Aspen, Basalt, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs). Check the Pitkin, Eagle, and Garfield County websites for job postings. It seems like we are always looking for law enforcement in these areas. Its beautiful, but expensive, and you can't beat the skiing.

Bumping your thread to get responses is against forum rules, see:
//www.city-data.com/forumtos.html
"Do not post in your thread ("bumping" it) just to have it appear on the top of the forum."

If you're not getting many responses, it's probably because your questions are too general, unanswerable, or often asked by others... Try searching the topics and the FAQ's first, then repost if needed.

With the current economy and cuts in employment, I'd say look for jobs where ever you find openings! The market is tight right now and you may only have a select few opportunities. You can always ask questions about specific areas once you have a job possibility in sight.

The one suggestion I would make is to search city websites for job openings.
