It appears to me he was anti-rich person and anti-corporation. Positioned himself as champion of the poor man. Sounds like a modern Democrat to me. The other irony is that it was Ernest Hollings who put the Confederate flag up on the State House, and he was a Democrat.

Party ideals change over time, even to the point of reversing themselves on some issues, without some voters who vote according only to party name even realizing it.

Not in this case, he would be a Democrat today if he stayed true to his principles.

I don't think the same voters are going to support a party that reverses their positions on numerous issues.

Racism is a generational and era thing more than a party thing anyway.

And there certainly are lots of voters who vote for a party because their parents do or did. And their parents did because their parents did, etc, etc.

Don't see too many Democrats who admit this. The race card has been played for 5 years straight under Obama.

You know the multi-story (four floors?) building on Devine Street just up from Five Points that has needed pressure-washing and painting for about a dozen years or more? It just got pressure-washed and is getting a fresh coat of paint now.

I've always thougth Devine Street seems more like the real Main Street, it looks like what you would think a traditional Main Street would look like.

Gervais Street looks more like a "Main Street" than Devine Street does. And it's location is more appropriate for a "Main Street" than Devine Street's is. As far as the name "Main Street" is concerned, I'd have no problem if they returned Main Street's name to Richardson Street.
