With seven council members, a city manager who answers only to them, and a weak mayor, does Columbia have cumbersome decision-making and very little accountability?
I'd prefer to see a strong mayor form of government. I've always believed there needs to be a CEO ultimately responsible for what happens and in a city that person is the mayor.

Ditto: that way you can vote them out if you dont like the job that they are doing rather than railing against some public sector employee whom is anonymous or insulated from public scrutiny.

From what I've seen since I've lived in SC, it isn't so much a problem with the form of government for the city of Columbia, but the people who get voted into office. Lack of vision.

So you mean Columbia voters are dumb compared to Greenville voters.

No.
I meant what I said. The selection of people who have run for office have been less than stellar. Instead of a vote for a great candidate, it's been a vote for the lesser of the evils. That happens everywhere from city, to county, to state, to federal government. A shame.
Hopefully, in future elections, Columbia will have some great choices of people to lead the city forward.

That's an insult to the people who are in office now.
It definitely seems to be true of our current governor and that's not good. Sometimes insults are deserved.
