^Just think - in 1 block - 1 block on Main Street, there will be 800 permanent residents and 500 hotel rooms with more apartments on each of the adjacent blocks. This is going to really help Main Street after 5.
The Keenan Building should alleviate some of the tightness in the downtown office market, but I'm starting to wonder if we might see news about a new high-rise sooner than later. A prime spot for one would be the soon-to-be former AgFirst block. The existing AF building there would make a great lower footprint for a 35-40-story tower. The other buildings on that block are empty.

Back in the 80s there would have been a groundbreaking by now for atleast a 30 story tower. Now it seems that both developers and banks are more skiddish. I hate to see potential downtown tenants opting to relocate to St. Andrews because of the lack of available space. After these older buildings are renovated maybe we will see a 10 to 15 story tower somewhere downtown
Back in the 80s and 90s Columbia had a mini skyscraper boom with the Palmetto Center, Capital Center, the BOA tower, and the First Union/Wells Fargo, buildings going up...I dont think we will see many skyscrapers but certainly more 10 -15 story buildings perhaps with Innovista and in the downtown area.
