I am new to Columbia and am looking for a townhouse/ condo. I saw some interesting ones on Arsenal Hill. Can anyone tell me about the Battery at Arsenal Hill and that area? Also, can you tell me how safe that area is?

I don't know of any persistent crime problems there. The location is pretty convenient with the heart of the Vista, Finlay Park and Riverfront Park only a few blocks away.

Thanks for the response. I am looking to buy. I saw some townhomes in that area and it looked like a good investment, especially in the long-term. (I am factoring in the planned growth of the vista area.) However, I am unfamiliar with the area. And, many new homes in the Northeast are larger and cheaper. So, I do not know.

I'd rather be downtown than out in the northeast, especially if you'll be working downtown.

Buy a home you'll be comfortable with in both space, location and price. Don't buy simply for an investment. Any home is a good deal as long as you get it at the right price. Go hire an agent familiar with both areas and negotiate hard. Best of luck.

that's a nice area, if you can afford it. my only concern would be safety at night, if you're planning on walking alone. but even then, i wouldn't worry too much.

i like to live in places where i don't have to deal w/traffic. that's why i don't live in NE columbia or lexington! it would be nice to live downtown and be able to walk to work and restaurants. the only thing you'd need to drive to would be malls and walmart/target/big box stores.

go for it. you'll love it!
