I read an article on the ledger enquirer website a few months back, and it said Columbus lacked Character and Architecture. So I found a few pictures to get your honest opinion.

I think Columbus architecture is great. Definitely a unique style. Believe our historic district is the largest in the state. I really enjoy looking at the homes down there.

Maybe they were referring to the lack of a real "urban" feel in the downtown/uptown area. There's no eye-grabbing skyscrapers, no big glass boxes, things like that (except for the government building and that big Duck tower). There is however brick - and LOTS of brick - that represents the city's heritage and history. For me, coming from a bigger city with a definitive urban downtown area, I like the way Columbus has refused to tear away from its past by building big glass boxes in favor of embracing its industrial heritage in the form of renovating old mills into condos, preserving the beautiful southern charm in many of the old homes in the historic district, and keeping the Broadway area more personalized where walking is a pleasure. I love going down there; each time I do I notice another jewel that was not only saved, but preserved. I love the median, the grassy area, and the speed control humps that keep the unknowing going slow. I think Columbus has just gotten started. With a consistent message from the population, I feel confident this town will continue to grow and offer more opportunities without losing that what made it a wonderfully charming southern city.
