There was a "Golden Park" down by the river as far back as the 1960s... it may have been an earlier one, I'm not sure. This was when the Georgia State Patrol was located down there, also, right across Victory Drive from Lil Kim's Cove and the Villa Nova.

Golden Park is a 5,000-seat baseball stadium in Columbus, Georgia, United States, that opened in 1926. Located on the Chattahoochee River in Downtown Columbus, it currently is not home to any professional baseball team. The exterior of the Golden Park is a red brick façade and has many well-landscaped sidewalks that connect to the Chattahoochee RiverWalk.

Golden Park is named after Theodore Earnest Golden SR, co-founder of Goldens' Foundry and Machine Co.. Golden led the effort in Columbus for the city's first South Atlantic League team. Golden Park was renovated in 1994 in anticipation of the softball events of the 1996 Summer Olympics that were held in the city of Columbus.

Tenants
Columbus Confederate Yankees (1964-1966)
Columbus White Sox (1969)
Columbus Astros (1970-1988)
Columbus Mudcats (1989-1990)
Columbus RedStixx (1991-2002)
South Georgia Waves (2003)
Columbus Catfish (2004-2008)
Columbus Wood Bats (2009)

It probably was changed to Golden Park after the Astros moved to a different city.

The baseball stadium has always been there since 1926. It was just renovated. Columbus auditorium was torn down for the Civic Center. The Go-Cart track went out of business for the softball park.

I'm getting more information on Golden Park:

"It was called Golden Park when I attended in the early 50's... I thought it was always called Golden Park."

"Columbus Cardinals in 50's... on the 1950's The Cardinal Farm team 'Red Birds" played Golden Park, and local lefty Eddie Whisman played with them. As far back as I remember it has always been Golden Park."

"Golden Park opened as such in 1951 with the Cardinals as the farm club."

And the information database grows!

Oh ok I understand now from reading above. I did not realize that golden park was that old if it opened back in 1926. I thought the whole park was constructed back in the 1990s for the softball olympics. With me being only 26 years old I do remember being a little boy back in the 1990's and I remember riding by the old columbus auditorium and seeing the wreckingball setup because they were fixing to demolish the old columbus auditorium to make way for the current columbus civic center.

I don't know the exact history to add in the Golden Park site, but here are the Columbus Foxes-Cardinals history!

The Columbus Foxes were a minor league baseball team that played in Columbus, Georgia.

The team originally played in the South Atlantic League from 1909-1917, then reformed in the Southeastern League from 1926-1932. They resurfaced as a St. Louis Cardinals affiliate known first as the Columbus Red Birds and then the Columbus Cardinals from 1936-1955 in the South Atlantic League. As the Red Birds, they won two league championships. Their first came in 1936 under manager Eddie Dyer, and their second came in 1940 under manager Clay Hopper.

They went back to the Foxes after the Cardinals left in 1956 and were affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles in 1956, the Cardinals again in 1957, and the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1958. The team played in the Alabama-Florida League in 1958.

As a Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate in 1959, they were known as the Columbus Pirates. They moved to Gastonia, North Carolina on July 6, 1959 and became the Gastonia Pirates.
