Okay, the title should have been "Smokestack across river visible from Victory Drive..." - I need to proof-read better before posting...

I've seen it for years, now, and noticed it again last night driving up Highway 431 from Dothan, just before Pittsview, Alabama, in the distance, near the river, is that giant smokestack which seems to billow a high gust of flame, which is often visible across river from Victory Drive as well.

This smokestack is enormous, as I'm sure most of you have seen, and the flames coming from it seem to reach up incredibly high... quite a sight late at night.

I'm a little confused here, you say near Pittsview and I immediately thought of the large paper mill in Cottonton, but then you say it's also visible from Victory Dr in Columbus? I don't believe there's anything visible from both those locations from the ground, that's ~20 miles apart.

From Victory Dr, you can sometimes see some of the larger heavy industrial plants down Brickyard Rd in Phenix City.

Yes, that must be Brickyard Road I'm seeing, but I was wondering if I wasn't catching a far away view from 431... it has to be the Cottonton location I saw last night, no relation to the view fro Victory Drive, two different smokestacks, both an amazing sight from a distance.

I know the one you are referring to it’s back on State Docks Road in Phenix City. It’s called Continental Carbon. Been there for years. The city had a problem with the company several years back the smokestack was putting off a black soot on the roof of the Civic Center.
