How's the Columbus job market these days?

If you had a professional, college-educated friend who told you they were thinking of moving to Columbus area, what would you tell them about the job market there?

I do know that job growth in Columbus is not the fastest in the country, its good for Ohio, but that says little.

Columbus has white collar job growth, but it is something like 10,000 jobs since 9/11. But Columbus has seen an 8,000 job loss in retail and blue collar jobs. This causes Columbus to often get a low ranking in job creation these days. Before 2001 Columbus had massive job growth for about 20 years. Columbus is still expected to gain jobs, but not at a rate that is something to brag about.

Many local, homegrown companies are adding jobs though.

I'm considering a move to Columbus and this is one of my greatest concerns--employment opportunities. Otherwise, I think Columbus and vicinity is ideal.

Another positive point is that Columbus has a very diverse economy, you can work for the state, education, or government, banking, tech., investments, insurance, etc. etc.. The usuals. However, Columbus also has many retail companies based in the city (Abercrombie, Limited, Express), which offers many creative opportunities in design, retail design, or fashion design. Something not every city has.

Default Thanks Streetcreed

Thanks Streetcreed, your post gives me hope of landing a decent job in one of the many sectors in Columbus. If I find a decent job, I can then get excited about finding my dream home!
