Ok, husband is willing to consider moving to Columbus, with the caveat that he wants to be a member at Muirfield Village Golf Club. He says if I can get him in, we can move!! Seems like kind of an impossible task to me....the club is exceedingly private and hard to join. Forget about the cost of initiation and fees, just getting an invitation to join seems to be impossible. Any ideas??

I used to caddy there and believe me, its no easy task becoming a member. Even if you can afford it, Im almost sure there is a wait-list for people wanting to become members. You sure must be doing pretty well though, if you can afford it!

When it comes to golf, money is no object!!! Just kidding....but that's how I feel sometimes. We are doing well right now with our savings, and some clubs offer a junior membership if you're a bit younger (we are 31). Plus with most of the clubs, the initiation fee is the biggest hurdle; after that, the monthly minimums are not always so bad. I don't know what Muirfield costs, although I'm sure it's tens of thousands to join.

I didn't think this club required a sponsor?

It costs $200,000 per year. How do I know this? I personally know the superintendant.

Good luck with that!

I don't know if it's quite $200k a year, but I know it's in the six figure ballpark. My boss's husband is a member (they live in Tartan Fields so they can afford it) and I have heard her talk about the costs and it is in the 6 figure range. It's crazy!!! My husband plays at Raymond Memorial. Sometimes if goes on a Monday he can get a free cart!

maybe I'm confused here, but per the Muirfield Village Golf Club's website, initiation is only $5,000, where is $200k coming from?

Here is the brochure: http://www.tccmv.com/getmedia/a6b9c9...2-11-2011.aspx

Am I missing something?

Who knows. I have never looked into it myself. People probably throw out those big numbers to make themselves look impressive. Even if I was very wealthy, there is no way I'd pay that much for golf! I'd rather take a fancy vacation

That brochure is to the Country Club at Muirfield Village. That is not Muirfield Village Golf Club. The Country Club is a nice course, but not a top 100 course in the world like Muirfield Village Golf Club.
