I'm buying a new netbook and they suggested I get an anti virus program from them that is around 40 dollars for 3 years. Also the extended warranty is almost 70 for an extra year. The initial covers a year. I'm buying an asus netbook if that makes any difference and was wondering what others suggest in purchasing these extras.Thank you

Get Microsoft Security Essentials for free. There is no reason to pay for antivirus software.

Netbooks are basically disposable. If it dies after the standard warranty is up, buy a new one.

If you have to get an extended warranty, look at SquareTrade instead. $60 for 3 years of coverage on a $300 Netbook.

SquareTrade Warranties | Extended Warranties for 70% Less Than Retail | Electronics Insurance Alternative

Thanks for the quick replies. I thought there was a free anti virus. I'm not going to get the extra warranty either. You are right the netbook is not that expensive.

Netbooks are meant to be cheap. The stores dont make much money on these either. They are making a lot of money on the (useless) warranty and AV.
