Mrs Tek is having problems getting DOS Box to work on her laptop in Windows 7 Pro.

Her laptop is a Compaq that has the "touch" controls across the top and DOS won't recognize it as a standard keyboard.

She has tried remapping, but DOS Box won't retain the changes.

Has anyone been through this and found a solution?

Appreciate any help you can Give.

Tek

DOS box or command prompt?

COMMAND.COM and IO.SYS are generally the two files that work to create the virtual machine.

My first thought would be to create a desktop shortcut to COMMAND.COM, right-click and use the properties to try different emulation/compatibility modes. She would then open using that shortcut and pif.

What are the touch controls she wants to use? Are they the standard function keys and so on or something different? If they are keys that have been on standard keyboards in the past, then Compaq hasn't followed through with backward compatibility in forwarding the required scan codes for use by COMMAND.COM. If so, there might have to be some special driver they would have to make.
