Hello, everyone.

Recently, I bought Diablo III only to find out that the video card I am using on my computer is unsupported. I'm running an NVIDIA GeForce 7100, which was what came with the computer when I bought it about three or four years ago. Needless to say, I need to upgrade my video card. I have about a $250 budget for one. I've been told that there are issues with motherboard compatibility... my motherboard is a Foxconn MCP73M01H1.

I was wondering if you guys could give me some points on good cards that I could buy (within the budget) that are compatible with the motherboard and would run a game like Diablo III.

Thank you

Best bang for your buck right now is either a Radeon 6870 or 6850. If you want to stay with nVidia the GTX 480 is about as good as you can get within your $250 budget. Either of these cards will play the game well. I have a 9800 GTX and it's playing D3 great, two heroes to 60 so far, one in inferno D3 is not a super high graphics game, which allows a humongous number of people to play it without issue.

I don't know what kind of issues they told you you'd run into, I can't find anything blatantly obvious

HP says they support x16 cards, which is the vast majority:

Thank you for your response!

Since those are all compatible, they should all work. I was doing some research earlier, and it said some cards would require a stronger power source, so that might be something else I would have to worry about.

Some cards will also require 1 or 2 six pin power connections, most Nvidia cards include one or 2 molex to six pin adapters.

Hey, I have a 32MB TNT2 card with 2x Voodoo 1000 Accelerator cards in SLI mode, if you are interested.

If I can't sell 'em soon, I might have to donate them to a technology museum soon.

I don't think they'd want them, but the Voodoo's were the stuff back in the day, had a few of them myself. The first gaming rig I built had a 4MB AGP TNT and a 4MB 3dfx Voodoo PCI.

SLI'ed or not, 16-bit PCI Voodoo accelerator cards used in conjunction with 32-bit AGP video cards was an odd configuration from a technical perspective but they somehow did miracles, didn't they?

The additional power connection current higher-end cards use is quite annoying though. One more thing to worry about. they need to come up with a universal connection type.
