Hello All...

The audio input on my Gateway laptop had a plastic piece which cracked & broke off 1-1/2 yrs ago, due to moving it about a bit too roughly & the wear & tear on the hole from stretching the headphones or external speakers cords too far or sideways... totally my fault. So, I'm having a problem with getting the green plug in the photo to stay in the laptop without falling out... sorry, I'm not electronics savvy, so it's best to use a picture post.

Since then, I've been still using external speakers (many of the audio files I listen to whilst working don't have sufficient sound quality for laptop speakers alone), but the hole in the computer the green plug fits into is wonky... sometimes I have to reboot if it accidentally falls out to get sound through the speakers again & I have to basically leave the computer in 1 spot & try not to bump the cord... I'm a bit like clumsier, female Mr. Magoo, so that's a tough one.

Is this what I need to use? From the descriptions on Amazon, many are using it for far more complex issues with Macs & Skype... I just want to use my external speakers with the green plug-thing (pardon my tech talk... ) without having to buy others which have a USB input. Oh, & I'm not too picky on sound quality & don't care if the left/right speakers are interchanged... it's not a pro sound system to me... I see that some complained about sound quality.

Amazon.com: Syba SD-CM-UAUD USB Stereo Audio Adapter, C-Media Chipset, RoHS: Electronics

Thank you very much!

You have a simple choice, either replace the audio jack or buy the USB audio jack...

The latter makes the most sense....

That is an external audio component that plugs in to a USB port so you can use your speakers with standard 2mm jack/connection.
Question, why don't you just buy a pair of speakers with USB connection instead?

Terminology:

It is not a "hole" that you plug in the green connector. It is a "jack."

The green connector in question is a "plug."

It is not an "input". The jack used for speakers is an "output" because the signal is pushed "out" to the speakers.

Great, thank you.

Turco... because I have 2 sets of speakers & would rather spend $8 than $20+ on a 3rd set of speakers.

Thank you, Hoffster! At least I didn't say machine... my 80-yr old mum refers to everything as a machine... from phone to car to blender. She calls voice mail "that telephone answering service lass". Okay, I am just as bad...
