Connect a laptop to an external monitor
without a direct cable connection ?
(we are now using a large HD TV as an external monitor)
There are a few ways with a direct connection.
1 - VGA connector
2 - HDMI connection (we use that now)
3 - USB connector
there is also a CAT5 connector on the TV
This means the laptop must be in close vicinity of the TV (cable length restrictions).
We also have a wireless keyboard and mouse combo, so we can (operate the laptop from a location a bit further from the laptop (the TV is a 40 inch unit)
So ...
I *found* some articles on doing this wireless, but was wondering if anybody knows the reliability and quality of the transmission, by using the wireless goodies to accomplish this.
The transmission is good quality but there is a subtle delay. It works great for watching movies and such (where delay will have no impact on the viewing)... but not so great for playing games and productivity.

No need to play games, but productivity may be a factor we may not like, if what I understand under *subtle delay* is a phenomenon that makes your computer seem to run slow ?
The wireless HDMI systems are not that cheap, so I like to find out more about them before I invest in it.
I may just have to go via Costco, and use their no questions asked return policy for 90 days !!!

Yep, that is actually what we ended up doing !
Found a good deal at Costco for 50 bucks.
But, we still would like to have the laptop near us ...
